STROBED

A place to see a few photos and a few words about Sydney art exhibitions when you can't get there yourself. Or when you want to see photos of yourself on the internet.

Point Of Control @ Mils Gallery

Vessel for an Ex Girlfriend - Joel Burrows, acrylic, oil & charcoal, 2010

“Point of Control” is an exhibition of works from Jim Shirlaw and Joel Burrows. The work from these two artists was hugely different in style and technique. However, the exhibition united them under the common theme of control.

Music Video Deluxe - Dance Till Somebody Loves You - Joel Burrows, DVD, 2010

Joel Burrows’ collection included a series of mixed media works on canvas and video. Colour, texture and movement played lead rolls in his compositions.

Vessel for a New Best Friend - Joel Burrows, acrylic, oil and charcoal, 2010

We can’t say we really know much (make that anything at all) about video art, but we love Burrow’s canvases. Really quite beautiful.

Bridge over Haymarket Harbour - Jim Shirlaw, watercolour and acrylic on paper, 2010

Jim Shirlaw’s collection was a display of his diversity and technical skill. Acrylics, watercolours, etchings, pencils and oil pastels all made apperences. Just as Shirlow’s mediums varied so did his subjects, from very traditional landscapes to confronting figurative works.

South East of Sydney - Jim Shirlaw, oil pastel and acrylic on canvas, 2010

Really wonderful composition and use of colour in all his work.

Great turnout on a cold winter night. I think everyone was keen to get into this cozy little space for some warmth, and more importantly, some art.
